5 iconic contemporary buildings Stockholm

Aula Medica

Nobels väg 6

In 2013, a new architectural landmark was inaugurated on the border between the city and Solna. Gert Wingårdh is the famous architect behind Karolinska Institutet's new lecture hall complex, the Aula Medica. A significant design feature is the building’s slightly curved façade. The surface layer consists of various coloured triangular glass elements.

Osquars backe 9

The new School of Architecture has received several awards since its completion in 2015. Tham & Videgård designed the ovoid building's façades in glass and a deep red Corten steel in a nod to the nearby dark red brick houses on the KTH Campus.

Stockholm Waterfront

Nils Ericsons Plan 4

Distinctive contemporary architecture tends to stir up emotions. But most people agree that White Arkitekter did an excellent job creating this energy-efficient building with an iconic, asymmetric, stainless steel façade.

Sven-Harry's Konstmuseum

Eastmansvägen 10-12

How can you overlook this five-floor building, clad in a gold-tinted copperaluminium-zinc alloy? Nicknamed Guldhuset or ‘The Golden House’, this spectacular, square building houses an art gallery, a museum and a restaurant, among other things. It was designed by Gert Wingårdh and Anna Höglund of Wingårdh Architects.

Strömkajen's Ferry Terminal Building

When Marge Arkitekter were commissioned to build the new ferry terminal buildings at Strömkajen, they had to take due account of the site’s central location. They created three cone-shaped, sculptural buildings in burnished tombak, that do not detract the attention from the nearby landmarks.
