One-of-a-kind vintage shops
1) W. Armstrong & son
Edinburgh, Scotland
Starting life in 1840, this well-established vintage clothing and accessories store has been delighting customers through the eras. Packed with clothing from the 1950s through to the 1990s, what was once in fashion, then out of fashion is now back in fashion! As the rails are adorned with a wonderful assortment of colours and fabrics to sift through at reasonable prices. A Mecca for those who want unique and one-off garments that no one else will have. With the current trend to reject fast fashion, Armstrongs have been well ahead of their time. They have four shops in Edinburgh with each one having its own personality, however the Grassmarket location deserves a special mention.

2) Decades
Los Angeles, United States
Personally, if an Academy Award invite came my way, I would head straight to the vintage-gown salon at this celebrated consignment shop. On Melrose for more than two decades, this is one of the best designer resale boutiques, not just in LA but in the world.

3) Nordic Poetry
London, United Kingdom
Carefully and expertly curated by Ameli Lindgren, Nordic Poetry is one of the best places to find high-end, high-quality vintage pieces from the 70s to the 90s, with attention always paid to the latest trends. From edgy designer fashion brands to informal sportswear pieces, every garment offered is a considered pick.

4) L'Arca
Barcelona, Spain
Trousseaus, sheets, table linens and other antique textiles from the 18th to the 20th century, including antique wedding dresses. The store has its own workspace; there used to be a textile factory at the same location.

5) Von Deux Vintage
Rotterdam, Netherlands
Because the wares are conveniently sorted by colour, you can easily find that perfect item to complement your wardrobe at Von Deux Vintage. Out of inspiration? Owner Rosanne models original looks on Instagram and will gladly advise you.

6) Daidai
Tokyo, Japan
Raggedy Ann & Andy, Smiley Face, teddy bears, animal motifs, etc. This shop is like the toy boxes in fantasy films, selling dresses with frills and the kind of floral print blouses that many children dream of.

7) Labels Inc.
Antwerp, Belgium
This shop sells clothes from past seasons by famous names in Flemish fashion, including the Antwerp Six and Martin Margiela, as well as a few international designers. The window display features new work by students from the Antwerp fashion academy.
