5 things to do during the World Cup in Miami

Miami is a global soccer city. Officially, we are "One Game. One Passion. / Un Juego. Una Pasión." — even if we all root for different teams, given our cultural backgrounds. That diversity actually makes the impending June-July World Cup matches — including an R32, a quarterfinal and a bronze final — at Hard Rock Stadium even more exciting. Experience some of the thrills at the Sports Illustrated official kickoff weekend event and throughout the free FIFA Fan Festival at Bayfront Park from June 14 to July 5, in addition to various hospitality and cultural institutions around the city.

1) Bayside Marketplace

Bayside Marketplace offers a range of activities that entertain the whole family before or after a match. Shop, dine, drink, or grab a ride on Skyviews Miami in one of the 42 rotating gondolas. You can also book a tour of the city here, by bus, speedboat or yacht. Why it's great for fans: it's adjacent to Bayfront Park, so you can walk there. You can also store your luggage there if you're coming directly from a flight or a cruise.

2) Tropical Park

This 275-acre urban park, built on a former racetrack, offers fields and courts for various sports, lakes for paddle-boating, and even a boxing center and equestrian center. Bringing the dog? There's a place for your pooch to play here as well. Why it's great for fans: Miami-Dade County is hosting an official Gold Cup watch party here (in addition to Little Haiti Soccer Park and the Miami Beach Bandshell) as part of its host city's promise of delivering an unmatched World Cup experience in South Florida.
