5 perfect patios
1) Cliff's Edge
With LA’s gorgeous weather, it’s a crime we aren’t eating every meal outside. Who would guess, sitting in the shade of a huge tree on the patio at Cliff’s Edge among lush greenery, that you are steps away from the bustling Sunset Junction? A perfect respite after you shop Sunset Boulevard.
The frenzy of the nearby Sunset Strip disappears on the garden patio of this 1923 former residence. Situated on what was once an orchard, verdant greenery (actually edibles used for the kitchen) surrounds diners, and just above the garden’s boundaries city lights sparkle in the night.
3) Malibu Farm
The view doesn’t get better than this – on the pier; you are basically sitting in the ocean. Both the restaurant and the cafe offer outdoor seating and it is certainly worth the wait to get it. The food, much of it coming from the namesake farm, is delicious, but the ocean breeze is the best.
Neal Fraser’s flagship restaurant, located inside the rectory of the former St. Vibiana’s Cathedral, is a great place to sample his take on modern American cuisine. The main dining room is the gorgeous courtyard patio that features a retractable roof. The space, in the middle of downtown, manages to be both awe-inspiring and comfortable.
5) Everson Royce Bar
The simple neon sign reading ‘bar’ out front gives no idea of the riches inside. This popular neighborhood watering hole has a huge patio out back and a menu of ‘snacks’ that make a delicious meal. The cheeseburgers are some of the best around and the comfortable setting feels like a beautifully lit backyard.
