Where the locals hang out in Malta

1) Caffe Cordina

Whatever the weather, this is one of those places that is always teeming with customers, who pop in for a quick espresso and a snack, or for a relaxed drink, in Valletta’s main square. The interior is unique, with its early 20th-century paintings and the Italian-style coffee shop. You can enjoy your drinks and snacks outside, in the square, while watching the locals file by. Highly recommended.

2) Delicata Wine Festival

One of the most popular summer events is the annual wine festival held at the iconic Upper Barrakka Gardens in the first half of August. Besides the excellent and unique view of the Grand Harbour, the music, the atmosphere and the good wine combine to make this one of the highlights of summer, that nobody wants to miss. The wines come from the cellars of the Delicata winery, and you can sample all the premium wines that the winery produces. Admission is free. All you need to do is pay for the wine and food you consume.

3) Kingsway

Located on Valletta’s main street, this bar and cafe references the former name of the street where it is located. Although the interior is smallish, there is ample space beneath the arches, where you can enjoy a cool drink, or even a snack, while enjoying the hustle and bustle of everyday life in the capital city. A great place for some people watching or to unwind after a busy day.

4) La Bottega

Mornings at this place are quiet, and enjoyable. La Bottega is located in one of the main shopping streets of Valletta, with outdoor seating. During the late evenings the atmosphere changes, with many people gathering here to enjoy some music, the company of friends, and the drinks and food as well. The place to be.
