Meet the author Magalie Raman in Havana

Havana - Magalie Raman
Magalie Raman

After obtaining a master’s degree in history, Belgian Magalie Raman worked in the record industry and the world of books. She loves to discover connections between her two passions: books and travelling. One of her travels brought Magalie to Havana in 2005. Since then she has been returning to Havana several times a year. Leaving the city is becoming harder every time, and arriving feels more and more like coming home. She is the author of The 500 Hidden Secrets of Havana

What Magalie loves most about Havana

“Its colours and open-mindedness, its contradictions and energy, its people and dynamism, its cuisine and architecture. And the fact that the city is always bustling and alive, day and night.”

Magalie's perfect day in the city might look like this

"I'd start with breakfast at Mamainé, preferably on one of the terraces in front or on the side of the café. Their home-made pineapple and ginger marmelade is divine.

Then I would visit the Casa de la Amistad and the Centro Cultural Dulce María Loynaz, in both cases because of their architectural beauty and amazingly interesting history.

"HAVANA IS ALWAYS BUSTLING AND ALIVE, DAY AND NIGHT."

A perfect place to have dinner is Starbien - this private restaurant or paladar stands for excellent food and outsanding service. And afterwards I would end the day with a heavenly piña colada at the rooftop bar El Cocinero."
