The 5 best wine bars in Hamburg
1) Weinladen St. Pauli
Sommelière Stephanie Döring is the soul of this young wine bar in St. Pauli. She has been gathering the young Hamburg gastro scene here at entertaining themed evenings since 2015. It’s not long since she also took over the weinladen.de and a branch in Cologne, and was promptly voted Dealer of the Year by Weinwirtschaft magazine.
2) Poletto Winebar
The chic suburb of Eppendorf has been dancing for a decade. When Remigo Poletto pushes the tables back in his Italian wine bar, ‘Suka Suka Lopo Log Party’ signs go up on the doors and everyone flips out. At all other times, it’s more of an elegant Mediterranean place.
More than 250 bottled wines and a varying choice of over 30 by the glass: with their selection, Julia and Axel Bode squared up to dusty wine lists with a stream of fresh ideas. Along with the selection, up to 80 guests can enjoy the unexpected with an array of fusion cuisine.
4) Kleines Jacob
The five-star mothership Hotel Louis St. Jacob on the Elbchaussee has prepared the way for Kleines Jacob with its 225- plus years in business. Just a few steps away, Kleines Jacob charms suburban Hamburg residents and tourists alike with its fine liquors. The wine list and menu are refreshed every three months. The associated vintner’s parties are legendary.
5) Ca' Vino
The first regulars arrive at Ca’ Vino’s stand in the Mercado shopping mall in Altona by noon. As the afternoon progresses, the group swells to a cluster of serious dimensions. In just a few square metres, proprietor Carsten Timmermann tempts them with a choice of more than 250 wines. Connoisseurs definitely don’t come here just for a casual stroll.
