The 5 best bookshops
1) Books & Company
Over the last decade, Books & Company has become a beloved institution in the largely international community of northern Copenhagen. This quaint ‘shop around the corner’ specialises in English language books, magazines, newspapers, kids books, and an excellent coffee bar.
2) Ark Books
The mission of this unique, non-profit shop is to introduce Danes to lesser known literature from around the world and to introduce the city’s non-Danes to the best of Danish literature. This cosy shop is a great place to escape a rainy day. Step in, talk literature and have a free cup of coffee.
This independent bookshop is run by Ulla Welinder and Morten Voigt, a graphic designer and illustrator duo, so you know the handpicked books, magazines, stationery, and designer goods at Cinnober are always going to be beautifully curated. This bespoke bookery is tucked away just off the main shopping street.
4) Thiemers Magasin
With a mix of English and Danish language books and magazines, Thiemers is the essence of what an independent bookshop should be: friendly, centrally located, with just the right mix of the new, the familiar, and the unexpected.
5) Politikens Boghal
Located in the very centre of the city, Politikens Boghal is Copenhagen’s biggest Danish and English language bookseller. With its extensive stock and friendly staff, there is a very good chance you will find the book you’re looking for here.
