The 5 best places for cocktails and tapas in Havana
1) Lamparilla Tapas & Cervezas
This great spot is located on a quiet street in Habana Vieja. Every part of this open space is completely decorated with a funky mix of random vintage objects. A big sign reads: “No Wi-Fi, please talk to each other”. The tapas menu includes to Cuban, Spanish, Italian and Mexican favourites. The ropa vieja is great as well as the pork chops with zucchini tempura with a sauce of hot chili.
2) Café Madrigal
The Madrigal is more than just a place to eat and have a drink, it is your appointment with Cuban culture. Be surrounded by artworks, photographs and artefacts related to cinema. The owner is Rafael Rosales, a Cuban filmmaker. The name of this very special place, Madrigal, is also the title of one of his feature films.
3) Siá Kará
Contemporary Cuban art, old worn movie posters, old books and Tiffany lamps. It’s like stepping into another world. The drinks menu is printed at the back of a licence plate. Choose a deluxe mojito and have some satisfying tapas while conversing with friends. Just behind the Capitolio. Chic Cuban hipsters in an environment with a bohemian vibe.
4) Art Pub
Not far from Plaza del Cristo and its Chanchullero, you will find this more sophisticated black and white Art Pub. It has an inner courtyard where you can drink terrific cocktails at half price during their happy hour at 6 pm. Art Pub is a reflection of the new entrepreneurial mindset in Havana. Ariel, the owner, worked as a bar tender at Floridita for many years. He expresses his love of photography in the decoration, with beautiful prints on every wall. The place is littered with old school cameras and photography equipment.
5) El Del Frente
Step through the small door and up the stairway to the rooftop for a taste of paradise. No, it’s not Berlin, you’re still in Havana. Start by ordering a piña colada, I’m sure you’ve never tasted something tan divino in your life. The other cocktails are equally heavenly.
