5 places to dance the Lindy Hop in Vienna
1) Some like it hot Ballroom
Named after the famous film with Marilyn Monroe this ballroom is a classic. It is located in the basement of a turn of the century house. And nothing could prepare you for the splendid sight that awaits you. The walls are lined with mirrors, red velvet seats with golden chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.
2) Café Francais
It’s like Paris in Vienna. You can have a French breakfast, lunch or dinner – and you can even dance at night or just have a drink and watch other people dance in the basement. They have tango nights, but also Lindy Hop, catering to a young, fun crowd. No credit cards.
3) Azul Bar
Azul means blue in Spanish. And this bar really makes you feel as you are in Spain or Latin America. It is quite accessible, and you soon feel as if you have already been here before. Have a drink and enjoy watching people dance in a familiar atmosphere.
4) 25hours Hotel Dachboden
This could have also been included on the list of hipster places. The bar of the 25hours Hotel Neubau near MuseumsQuartier is a top location. It’s open from 3 pm till 1 am and hosts plenty of different events including Swing ‘n’ Roll, Lindy Hop, Thirsty Thursday and many more. Very laidback.
This used to be a music shop but now it’s a cafe, a restaurant and a bar, on two floors. The name refers to a cafe Edison that opened here in 1922. The interior is quite cool, in a Scandi-kind of way. Famous for its cocktails.
