5 great places for skating and sports in Vienna
1) Skate Park Prater
Prater used to be the royal family’s hunting grounds. In 1766, it opened to the public and nowadays it is an important green area for all kinds of leisure activities. It is divided in the Wurstelprater (amusement park) and the green Prater. It also has the coolest skate park. All levels!
The Donaupark opened together with the Donauturm for the international garden show in 1964. Measuring 604.000 square metres, it is actually quite large. It has retained its sixties look and feel and architecture though. As it is near the UNO-City you’ll find a very international crowd here. A good place for a run or a bungee jump.
Vienna is a very green city. More than half of the city is made up of green space. But not every district is as green. There are plenty of places to exercise in the more urban areas however. Check out Skateplaza in Neubau: small, but beautiful.
There are various climbing halls in Vienna but this spot is the best in summer. It is situated on the Donauinsel and you can easily get there by public transport (U1 and a short walk). You can combine climbing with other activities like swimming or roller blading. Plan a day trip.
This climbing park is located in the woods on Kahlenberg. There are 18 courses, with three levels of difficulty. Work on your balance while you enjoy the beautiful view. You can see the entire city from here. Try the zip lines and explore Vienna’s green lung, the Wienerwald. Children welcome.
