The 5 most interesting animal cafes in Tokyo

You pay the entrance fee, enjoy drinks and get to play with cats. All the cats were rescued from getting killed. This cafe is a place where rescued cats and people wishing to adopt one can meet. But the cats are equally happy with visitors who just want to pet them.

This cafe in an old house serves a variety of buns. As it happens, they also have cats that wander about freely. Their upstairs feels very much like home. On hot days there may not be a cat in sight. Where are they, you wonder? Who knows? They are cats after all.

They have about 50 owls in this cafe. Owl, fukuro in Japanese, rhymes with Ikebukuro, so the owl is the symbol of this area. You can bring your own owl (quite a few people own owls as pets in Japan) if you wish but you must inform cafe staff before your visit. Please note they only serve drinks in PET bottles, no food. 

This is Tokyo’s largest owl cafe although it doesn’t look like a cafe, really. As its name suggests, this place resembles a forest, and you might have difficulty in discovering an owl at first. Some of the owls are used to humans, others are not. Be careful not to touch the wild ones.

Hachurui means reptiles. Yes, this is a cafe where you can play with reptiles. This cafe is members only. Ring them up the day before your visit. They also offer a hotel for reptiles, so, they can look after your pets for you while you are out of town.
